Hazelwood's staff and PTO would like to thank Wendy's restaurants for their support this school year. During that time, Wendy's has made multiple food and drink donations. Most recently, their coffee, juice and sausage biscuits were a nice treat for teacher appreciation week.
Once again, we are thankful for their support.

Announcements
A week of health tips and flu information:
Monday—Right now is the perfect time to be talking about the flu, how to keep from getting it, and what to do if you have it. What is the flu? It is a contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus. The biggest difference between the common cold and the flu is that those with the flu have higher temperatures and more severe symptoms including headache, muscle ache, exhaustion, and cough.
Tuesday—With flu season upon us, it is vital to remember our hand washing skills. Wash your hands several times a day using soap and warm water for at least 15-20 seconds (that is long enough to sing the Happy Birthday song twice).
Wednesday—The flu and many other illnesses can be spread from coughs and sneezes. Make sure to cover your mouth when coughing and use a tissue when sneezing or blowing your nose. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to throw that tissue away immediately and wash your hands.
Thursday—Even if you and the people around you are feeling fine, it is still a really bad idea to eat and drink after one another or share such things as chap stick or lip gloss. You are not just sharing the food or drink, you are sharing germs—germs that could cause the flu and other diseases such as colds, strep throat, and even the herpes virus that causes cold sores.
Friday—It is important to know when to come to school and when to stay home. If you are running a temperature over 1000, stay home and don’t return to school until you are fever-free for at least 24 hours without taking any medication to bring it down. If your parent suspects you have the flu, stay home and call your doctor. Drink plenty of fluids and get lots and lots of rest.
Newsletter
It is that time of year again—flu season! The flu is a contagious respiratory illness caused by a virus. Symptoms may include fever (usually high), headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, and nasal congestion. The flu is spread when a person who has the flu coughs, sneezes, or speaks and sends the flu virus into the air, which then enters through another person’s nose, throat, or lungs. Some over the counter medications—such as acetaminophen (Tylenol), decongestants, and cough suppressants—and use of a humidifier can provide some relief from symptoms. If you catch it in time, your doctor may be able to prescribe medication that can help you get better quicker. Your best plan of attack for this flu season is to prevent the spread of this illness through good hand washing, avoiding contact with those that are sick, staying home when you are sick, and keeping your children home when they are sick. Please keep your child home until he/she no longer has a fever and can remain fever-free for 24 hours without the use of medication to reduce fever.
